Affiliate Disclosure

When you press a Buy button on a book at The Ravenry, that link may carry an affiliate tag. If you go on to buy the book, the retailer pays us a small commission.
It never costs you a penny more. The commission comes out of the retailer's own margin, not your pocket — you pay exactly what you would have paid going to the shop directly.
We publish this disclosure in line with the Amazon Associates Programme Operating Agreement, UK CMA and ASA guidance on making advertising clear, and the US FTC's endorsement guides.
1. Why we use affiliate links
The Ravenry is free to join and free to read. Commission on book sales is one of the ways we cover the cost of running it — the hosting, the emails, the people. If you buy a book through us, you are helping keep the community going, at no cost to yourself.
2. Amazon Associates
Jenny Raven is a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
Our Buy buttons send every reader to Amazon.co.uk, wherever in the world you are reading from, because the UK programme is the only one we belong to. If you would rather buy from your own local Amazon store, search for the title there instead — we would far rather you got the book than that we got the commission.
Once you land on Amazon you are on their site under their terms, and they set their own cookies. See Amazon's own privacy notice for what they do with that.
3. Which links are affiliate links, and which aren't
Buy buttons on books we imported from Amazon carry our affiliate tag. You can always see it — the address you arrive at has "tag=" in it — and you are welcome to strip it off before you buy if you would rather we didn't earn on it.
Every other outbound link is passed through exactly as it was given to us, with nothing added: a book someone entered by hand, an author's own website or shop, and links to other retailers such as Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Waterstones or a publisher's own store. None of those are affiliate links.
Links inside blog posts, comments and members' own posts are not affiliate links either, unless that post says otherwise.
4. Authors and members
Where an affiliate tag is added it is always ours, and the commission supports The Ravenry. Members and authors with a store here do not earn affiliate commission through us and cannot set a tag of their own.
Authors still earn their usual royalty on every copy sold, exactly as they would on any other sale.
5. What we record when you click
So we can see which books people are actually interested in, pressing a Buy button records the book, the shop it sent you to, an approximate country, and — only if you are signed in — that it was you. Your IP address is not stored, and we do not tell Amazon who you are.

6. Nobody can buy their way in
No author, publisher or member pays to be listed, featured, charted or recommended on The Ravenry. Commission plays no part in which books we import, put in front of you, or write about — we don't push a book because it happens to pay us better.
7. Prices and book details
Prices, covers, blurbs and star ratings shown here are collected from Amazon and from what authors and members tell us, and they can go out of date between checks. Always take the price on the retailer's own page as the real one before you buy.
